Support & Development Workers

Shine Surrey is a registered charity which is affiliated to the much bigger, national charity Shine. (For more information click here.) The 2 charities work together and Shine Surrey jointly funds the Support & Development Worker for the Surrey area with national Shine.

A local Shine Support & Development Worker is usually the first source of advice for families. She has ready access to a range of literature and can help families directly or point them to more specialist agencies. Also, where appropriate, Support & Development Workers liaise and work with professionals, e.g. those in education, social services, housing, the workplace etc, to ensure families get the services they are eligible to receive.

The local Support Worker can also contact the Shine Health Advisers  for help and support on health and medical issues, and Shine Education Advisers for advice on education.

Service users and professionals can also contact them direct for any help they need.

Debi HicksPortrait of a lady

We would like to welcome Debi Hicks who is the new Support and Development Worker for Shine Surrey and the Southern regions.

Her background is predominantly within Health and Fitness where she worked her way up from a Fitness Instructor to the role of a General Manager. Learning where her strengths lay - in supporting and helping people to achieve their full potential - she was inspired to change direction in her career. So she went to work for Leonard Cheshire Disability, then to HAIL in Haringey and lastly to Shine.
